My "Why"
My grandmother inspired me to become an Occupational Therapist. Throughout her life, she faced many medical challenges, and during her time in the hospital I saw firsthand the impact that compassionate, culturally responsive occupational therapy had on her attitude toward rehabilitation. When providers spoke to her in her native language (Spanish), her anxiety eased and her confidence in her functional potential grew. Later, I gained experience as an outpatient rehabilitation technician, where I translated for Spanish-speaking patients recovering from upper-extremity injuries. These experiences showed me how powerful therapy can be when it combines clinical skill, trust, and clear communication.
