Heather Drexler was born in New Jersey and has called Gilbert, Arizona, home since she was four years old. Her interest in physical therapy began after a shoulder injury and torn labrum interrupted her 10 years as a softball athlete. Experiencing rehabilitation firsthand showed her how much physical therapy could help people return to the activities they love.
Heather went on to spend five years as a physical therapy technician in an outpatient orthopedic clinic. Working closely with patients through their recoveries strengthened her passion for helping people overcome challenges, recognize their progress, and reach goals that matter to them. During that time, she studied Exercise and Wellness at Arizona State University before pursuing her physical therapist assistant training at Pima Medical Institute.
Outside the clinic, Heather enjoys riding and spending time with her horses, Rusty and Reign. She has ridden since age three and has competed in gymkhana, barrel racing, and mounted shooting. She also enjoys wake surfing, jet skiing, fishing, gaming, and time at the lake with friends and family.
My Story
Growing up, my grandmother became a paraplegic after an accident involving slipping on black ice. Unfortunately, she did not receive the level of care and support she deserved from her healthcare provider. At the time, I did not fully understand how I could have helped her. Knowing what I know now, I wish I had been able to step in and advocate for her more, but I cannot hold that against myself. Instead, I have allowed that experience to shape my passion for working in a neurological setting. I am interested in becoming involved in neurological research in the future. For now, as a new graduate PTA I am focused on soaking up as much knowledge and experience as I can.
